Lessons shaped around your music
Piano lessons at First Chord can begin with a first melody or develop into confident playing, improvisation, songwriting, classical repertoire, contemporary music or graded study. Your tutor will help you connect technique and musical understanding with pieces you genuinely want to play.
We teach the person rather than force everyone through the same book. That means finding the right balance of listening, reading, theory, creativity and focused practice for your age, experience and ambitions.

★★★★★
“Myself and my twin boys all take lessons with First Chord Music. My 7 year olds love their guitar and piano lessons and can't wait for Saturdays to come along. Great teachers, very patient, and we feel we're in super good hands.”

Useful things to know
Piano lesson questions
Do you teach complete piano beginners?
Yes. Lessons can start with no previous experience and are adapted to the learner rather than assuming prior knowledge.
Are piano lessons available for adults and children?
Yes. First Chord teaches young children, teenagers and adults, including adult beginners and people returning after a long break.
Do I need a piano at home?
Regular access to a piano or keyboard makes practice easier. If you are unsure what would be suitable, ask us before buying and we can advise.
Can piano lessons include grades?
Yes, when grades are useful to the student. They are optional rather than the only route through lessons.
Can I learn contemporary music as well as classical piano?
Yes. Repertoire is chosen around your interests and can include contemporary songs, classical pieces, jazz, accompaniment, improvisation and original music.
